An extreme Muslim cleric whose family have been living on benefits in Britain for 20 years says it would not be 'fair' to deport him. Speaking after the Prime Minister announced his clampdown, father-of-seven Sheik Omar Bakri said: "I have wives, children, sons-in-law, daughters-in-law. It would be hard on my family if I was deported."

Since Syrian-born Bakri settled in Britain, he and his extended family have raked in benefits amounting to at least £300,000 ($530,000 USD).

He is registered disabled because of an injury to his leg during his childhood, and was recently supplied with a £31,000 ($55,000 USD) Ford Galaxy under the Motability scheme.

Bakri, who lives in a £200,000 ($355,000 USD) home in North London, tops up his £250-a-week benefit payments with an extra £50 incapacity allowance.

He has praised the September 11 terrorists as 'magnificent', called Israel 'a cancer' and said homosexuals should be 'thrown from Big Ben'.

In January, he declared that Britain had become a 'land of war', and called on Muslims to unite behind Al Qaeda. He has supported suicide bombings and urged his followers to kill non-Muslims ' wherever, whenever'.

Abu Uzair, a former member of al-Muhajiroun who is now believed to be involved with its successor organisation, the Saviour Sect, said on BBC's Newsnight that after the July 7 attacks "the banner has been raised for jihad inside the UK". He said that Muslims had abandoned a "covenant of security" saying they should not resort to violence in Britain because they were not under threat.

"We don't live in peace with you any more, which means the covenant of security no longer exists," he said.

I don't understand why they keep giving these guys a platform to talk on. The IRA and Sinn Fein weren't allowed to go on TV during the troubles. It should be the same with these ranting loons.

It is. He is really saying it under public relations though since the media has been putting Islam under a lot of shit. Though I am sure Canada too is appeasing them as well

I forget: when you say "our" how are you one of the U.S.A. again? You think America will defend you after the Muslims decide your morals are corrupt since you have legalized gay marriage and so they want to chop your heads off, and that makes you one of us by proximity?

When you put the word terrorism in between apostrophes, does that mean that you don't take its' threat seriously?

The following steps could be considered as a plan for the U.S.A.---and they address the issue of TERRORISM beginning from within America's borders:

And if I may poke further: when 9-11 happened, Canada said the U.S. deserved it because of our foriegn policies, that we brought it on ourselves because America is a bully. So 4 years later has the opinion changed? Let me guess: a bigger % of Canadians believe we still deserved it, right? :winkkiss:

Not all terrorists are Muslim. Not all Muslims are terrorsits. Would probably work better to outlaw all religions not just one. Besides this country was supposedly founded on religious freedom

The Islamist preacher Sheikh Omar Bakri Mohammed, who left Britain for Lebanon at the weekend after learning he could face incitement charges, will be banned from returning if he fails to come back before the end of the month.
Mr Bakri, the former leader of the Islamist group al-Muhajiroun, said yesterday that he was enjoying a holiday with his mother in Beirut and still hoped to return to London to his family.

The deputy prime minister, John Prescott, urged Mr Bakri to stay away. "I just say 'enjoy your holiday, make it a long one'," he said, adding that the preacher, who currently has indefinite leave to remain in Britain, had committed no offence by leaving the country.

2 things....1) It isn't in effect, nor is it likely to be soon. 2) Jews are allowed to face a Jewish court with religious laws in effect, why not Muslims. Doesn't change Canadian laws one whit.. they still wouldn't be able to 'stone women in the streets' - it does, on the other hand, allow for a 'jury of peers'.

Because the word has as many connotations and in the context of the phrase "War on terrorism" has even more. Terrorism isn't a country. Terrorism is a mind-set, and as such...pretty much invisible until its too late. I used quotes because the term is overly used , especially preceeded by "War on.."

I don't remember Canada saying any such thing. Some Canadians might've said it...then again, some Americans said so as well.

What I do remember is that when 9/11 happened, that Canada hosted thousands of Americans in our homes whose planes had been sent to us (gratis). I remember OUR firefighters and OUR doctors and OUR rescue people going down to New York, by the hundreds to help out. I remember the Billions of dollars coming from OUR pockets to help out the survivors and the families of those who died during 9/11.
YOU, on the other hand, seem to have forgotten that.

Take your ego out of your ass and have a look around.
