Votes in the UN

OK, so after the EU is finished this unification, will it get only one vote in the UN? If not, please give the United States 51 votes (for the 50 Sovereign States and the District of Columbia). Otherwise, there is something rotten going on.
 
Syria? Do they hold one of the floating seats right now?

The big guns are US, China, Russia, UK, Frogland... and 2 floating seats.. i think.. My UN trivia is rusty.

I believe you're right. Still, I just think the UN was flawed in its conception. You don't invite the Gambino family to join a task force on organized crime, why invite countries like China and Syria to join an organization that's supposed to bring peace and the rule of law to the relationships between countries?

So why seat the countries who are consistently responsible for violating the peace, and who explicitly reject the rule of law? How does it help to give them the power to make decisions about who will be condemned for violating the peace and who the UN will take action against for violating the rule of law? They've turned the UN into a haven for tyrants, and an apologist for tyrants.
 
true, but only in 12 of the nations that form the eu. and for me, monetary unification is not the same as a unified country, while eu law carries weight in all countries that are members, they can still opt out of treaties etc.

i'm not sure a unified europe will occur in my lifetime, there will be too many hudles to jump in terms of sovereignty.
 
Just looking over the list of members, How did Colombia make it on that list, what is it, a lottery?

Colombia is one of the most corrupt countries in the world, and they are on the UN Security Council?
 
if columbia is that corrupt, perhaps they bought their way onto the security council? ;)

Well, it's an election by the General Assembly, but I'm sure there's some sense of "everybody should get a turn" that guides who gets nominated and voted in. We have to include everyone, ya know. Even terrorists and tyrants. We wouldn't want to make them feel bad about themselves.
