No...I think you need to work for more than 6 months but, since it's called a layoff, check.

I've been fortunate to never have needed to go on unemployment but I think regardless of being laid off or fired, you have to have been employed for 6 months prior. Why go on unemployment? Why not try to get another job if you need the cash?
