What's the deal with drinking?

Ok, that looks more like a sensible discussion.

Few Healthy well adjusted people drink to get drunk.

First off I'm not sure what you mean by "drink to get drunk". Does this mean fall-down, blackout drunk or just buzzed or both? If I assume you mean any level of buzz then I disagree. Many well adjusted happy healthy people have a few drinks and put on a buzz watching sports, clubbing, camping, etc and there is no problem. The definition of an addict is normally someone who persists in spite of serious consequences.

Yes it is an alternate reality. If you do it to feel good it's because you don't 'feel good'

People who go to spas, get facials, or massages do it to feel good even though they may feel fine in the first place.

If that isn't altering your reality then i don't know what is.

So a massage would be an alternate reality then too.

Keep in mind this discussion is not about the casual drinker in the first place

The post was why do people drink.

It's not about being content with reality or not...it's more about being interested in new experiences.

Why? because you're not content with the experiences in your current reality?

People may try horseback riding or whitewater rafting for a new experience...is this a sign of trouble as well?

You know it is ok to have an inflamed discussion once in a while. Even if it gets loud & slightly misdirected. IMO it's only when people begin slinging personal insults or threats that the discussion becomes pointless.

Getting drunk would simply mean drinking large quanities of Alcohol to catch at least, a buzz.

Many well adjusted happy healthy people have a few drinks and put on a buzz watching sports, clubbing, camping
But that's not what the discussion is about. It's about people who drink to have fun. Not the people who drink while having fun.

The definition of an addict is normally someone who persists in spite of serious consequences.

I would say any negative consequences. not just serious ones.

So a massage would be an alternate reality then too.
If you really feel the need to break it down that much then i'll give you that one.

People may try horseback riding or whitewater rafting for a new experience...is this a sign of trouble as well?

No, that's called getting the most of life.

P.s. Where were you when i was taking philosophy? We could of had some fun.

I agree. At the discussion board I'm on the most there are many heated debates and i find it interesting that way. This board doesn't get too many and it's probably one reason i don't post real often. I've probably posted more in this thread today than I have on the whole board in the last couple weeks.

So.....

But that's not what the discussion is about. It's about people who drink to have fun. Not the people who drink while having fun.

I think there is alot of grey area in this distinction. Some people get addicted to gambling right? A few months ago I went to a local horsetrack to see what it was like and bet on a couple horses. So did I gamble to have fun or did I gamble while having fun?

I would think the consequences would need to be of some significant importance. Say your only consequence was that you spilled a margarita and had to mop the floor?

Yeah.....that's ultra slight. But even a hangover. I mean, you wouldn't keep drinking apple juice if it kept giving you splitting headaches. But yes lots of grey, and difficult to cut through the grey when you have somewhat articulate individuals breaking down every single word. Text over speech only drags it on even farther. At any rate, the tits on your Avatar we're distracting me and keeping me from being at my peek level of performance.

Alcohol is probably most likely used as a casual buzz tool because those people who use it just to get a little silly haven't discovered the joys of casual dry humping or even sex. Nothing makes a person silly like sex with no strings attached, nobody to cook breakfast for in the morning besides yourself (unless you're already hooked up  ).

Case in point: "Heeheehee, I just got laid and I don't even have to buy her a ring! Life rocks!"

You can run out of beer, tequila, etc, but one thing you can never run out of is sex. Think about the benefits. There are no lows after sex. After sex, you're able to quickly fall asleep and go a full night's sleep without interruption. You can have sex at any age, and you can drive even after having 5 or 6 that night. Although this may work to your disadvantage, because after sex is one of the most honest points in a man's life, so you may actually admit you were going 75 in a 25 zone, but the advantages far outweigh the disadvantages. Sex is good for you, plain and simple. Spread the word! Sex is the drug of the new millenium! :headbang:

Breaking down text is a habit I picked up in Logic class in college and have never shook. And yes, those breasts can be a powerful tool. If they ever fell into the wrong hands....

Sex addiction might be an interesting discussion. :D

It could be. But what is there to possibly debate about? A sex addict simply fears intimacy.

(Wonders if anyone can be egged)

Depends on the definition of sex. If you include sex with yourself, then a sex addict could just simply have an overworked wrist. :headbang:

The fact is that if you're a healthy person then you're not going to get the same enjoyment from it. Same goes with drugs. The more unhealthy you are, the more psycologically uncomfortable you become. Alcohol & drugs present an escape or alternate reality. If you are content with reality then you'll find less enjoyment in that false reality. The more psycologically uncomfortable you are the more enjoyment you'll find in that false reality which is an escape from the pain of reality and the more attractive the high becomes.
If that was true then I would be a helpless alcoholic. I drink because I like the beverages, not to get drunk. That does not prevent me from getting drunk and enjoying it sometimes but I don't see it as an escapism. I probably get drunk 3 or 4 times a year these days. If you're going to say that's because I'm healthy, I can tell you're wrong. I have a strong tendency to depression and I hate my life and reality.

Well that doesn't mean that anyone unhappy is going to be a drunk. Some do other things, and some just suffer.

Of course no, but my point is you're going to find a lot of people 'healthier' then me that enjoys alcohol better than I do. :)
fury thank for the warm welcome :headbang:
