Pretty much what Bush wants, I think. He's attempting to get a more international force in there long term, and the recent elections were a big step in the "2-3 years" direction.

BTW, France finally pulled its head out of its ass today, and so NATO will now begin to train troops.

I don't think that he's come out with a definitive plan tho'.
Putting Nato in there are Peace-keepers assumes that there's peace in place to keep. It's still a slaughterhouse for would-be Iraqui politicians.

I worry about the kick in the head all those kidnap and behead occurences are going to do to the multilateral Nato force and multilateral rebuilding force.

What do want? for him to state every move on a time line/ Look what happened when said we are turning over the Gov't to the Iraqis on 6/30/04. He got nothing but hell from every one for it. (werked out well thoo)

What happens is DYNAMIC, it changes as the politcal situation changes, (like NATO today) Had he taken NATO off the table; he would be hamstrung today.

You can oversimplify all you want, but the world is anything but simple.

Hell Is on the Way

The last refuge of the modern liberal is patriotism. John Kerry clothed himself on Thursday night in the American flag that his friends used to boast of burning. He relied on ribbons he once flung at the White House as proof of his fitness to occupy it. And he accused the Republicans of anti-Americanism, a slur liberals once wore as a badge of honor.

Kerry perspired his way through the platitudes ably enough, but it was telling that he had to depend parasitically on Dick Cheney's line -- "help is on the way" -- to find an anthem of his own. The Democrats have decided to be a pale imitation of the Republicans even in their rhetorical constructs.

Kerry's daughters were saddled with the chore of having to humanize him. They came up with a few human qualities he displayed at a "chili feed," spoke of how he brought some "foliage" to his dying mom, and how he once rescued a hamster named Licorice from death. No sooner was the hamster story concluded than Alexandra Kerry was promising that her Pa would protect abortion -- "controlling our bodies." The Democrats never fail to couple their environmentalism -- protecting animals -- with calls for not protecting humans through abortion. Democrats argue for purity in nature and impurity in human nature, selflessness toward hamsters, selfishness toward vulnerable humans.

Kerry said that "complexity" doesn't trouble him. Actually, he means contradiction doesn't trouble him. It was interesting to see him slide from internationalism to near-nativism within a few paragraphs of the speech. The candidate who believes we should be working more with foreigners spoke in an almost brooding nativist tone about the indignity of fired Americans surrendering their jobs to "foreigners." The great internationalist -- the one who says that we are too closed off to the world -- is upset that Americans and foreigners are working side by side at auto plants?

There was also of course the blatant contradiction of Kerry saying that Democrats won't divide America, then doing just that before finishing his speech. This most improbable champion of the "middle class" had no qualms about dividing America by wealth, egging Americans into soaking the rich. It was a nice hypocritical Democratic touch to have notorious tax-dodging multimillionaire Willie Nelson sing before the class-warfare commenced.

Kerry's derivative rhetoric went from Cheney's "help is on the way" to quoting Ron Reagan Jr. musings on his father's religion. Kerry said that he doesn't wear his "religion on his sleeve" -- perhaps too many recently discovered ribbons are getting in the way -- but that he endeavors to be on "God's side." Then he proceeded to tout the Democrats' opposition to the Republicans' constitutional protection of marriage as ordained by God. Naturally, Kerry didn't mention in his warning about constitutional tinkering that he marched for the Equal Rights Amendment, a constitutional amendment that would have, among other things, backdoored same-sex marriage into the Constitution.

What God has joined together, the Democrats are happy to put asunder. Barney Frank, speaking at the convention earlier, let the cat out of the bag when he said Democrats stand for letting homosexuals "marry," further proof that a Kerry presidency will mean same-sex marriage nationwide.

Weaker at home, weaker abroad -- this is the Democratic mantra reduced to reality which Kerry's new-found patriotism cannot conceal.

THE WASHINGTON TIMES

Democrats capped Sen. John Kerry's presidential nomination last night by showing a Hollywood-produced movie of his life, featuring amateur film clips and testaments about his service in Vietnam as commander of a Navy river patrol boat.

But a group of former sailors who served with Mr. Kerry are telling a different story. Rather than depicting Mr. Kerry as a war hero, they are quoted in a new book accusing him of exaggerating and falsifying his experiences.

The group says that of 23 crew members photographed with Mr. Kerry more than 30 years ago in Vietnam, only one supports his presidential campaign. They will announce a nationwide campaign by "Swift Boat Veterans for Truth" to tell the American public about what they say is Mr. Kerry's true war record.

The book, "Unfit for Command: Swift Boat Veterans Speak Out Against John Kerry," from Regnery Publishing, is written by John E. O'Neill. Mr. O'Neill served in Vietnam at the same time as Mr. Kerry and followed him as commander on the swift boat.

The book quotes Mr. Kerry's fellow combatants as saying two of his Purple Hearts came from friendly fire, not the enemy. The veterans also will dispute other stories Mr. Kerry has told.

Retired Rear Adm. Roy Hoffmann, who commanded Mr. Kerry's task force in Vietnam, is one of the book's sources.
Adm. Hoffmann said yesterday he has supplied several instances of Mr. Kerry's purported lies. One example, he said, is Mr. Kerry's contention that he warned admirals of the folly of a certain river operation. Adm. Hoffmann said he and others were at the meeting, and that Mr. Kerry never made such a statement.

"The real truth is he didn't say a ... word," Adm. Hoffmann said.
Mr. Hoffmann is chairman of Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, which plans what it calls a grass-roots campaign.

"We're going to tell the truth — the fact that he was a perpetual, habitual liar," Adm. Hoffmann said. "I don't care whether it was perjury or lying before the Senate of the United States, or that two of his Purple Hearts are at least very specious, if not absolutely false, because he filed false after-action reports."

John Kerry has the distinction of being mentioned by the general who led the forces of North Vietnam as a major contributor to the victory of North Vietnam over South Vietnam.

Newly Crowned Kerry Storms Back on the Campaign Trail

Kerry and his vice presidential running mate, John Edwards were accompanied by both their families, as well as Hollywood heart throb Ben Affleck -- doing a bit of goodwill stumping.

Earlier, their bus convoy pulled over at a Wendy's fast food restaurant for a photo opportunity lunch that provided an awkward moment.

Spotting a group of US Marines, Kerry, who has made his Vietnam War service a cornerstone of his campaign, went over to chat. The Marines, who all turned out to be staunch Bush reporters, were not impressed.

"He imposed on us and I disagree with him coming over here shaking our hands," one of them told reporters afterwards. "I'm 100 percent against" Kerry, he said. "We support our commander-in-chief 100 percent."

If Kerry keeps trying to court the military vote, the cameras might just catch a soldier refusing to shake his hand.
