Not really. Since we invaded, and annexed, Hawaii, we've been steadily giving land back. First was Okinawa, then the Philippines, then the Panama Canal zone...I may be wrong about this, but no other country ever gave territory back to the local population without a prolonged war...

No, invasion by the US is the best thing that can happen to most nations.
If we had taken North Korea then 'given it back' they'd be in a Hellava lot better shape now.
Iraq it is going to be shown to have come out way ahead because of our involvement there.
Having Uday and Queezy as their masters wouldn't have been all rosy.
