I like freedom. I want consenting adult couples to be free to marry each other. It's the anti-freedom people with their bigotry goo that want the state to prevent that.

Yes, exactly like that. The south used to be overwhelmingly Democrat. But granting blacks civil rights was too much for them and the bigots swung over to the Republican side after that.

Probably has something to do with who now stands in the way of civil rights for gays.

Al Gore Sr., Robert Byrd, and Lyndon Johnson all became Republicans?

I'm saying you can't allow one to marry and not the other. It's either denying rights or granting special privileges. Bigotry based on sezual orientation.

So you would be satisfied if the laws were changed to disallow marriage to anyone regardless of sexual orientation?

No you want to destroy someone elses rite. You can have civil unions which off the same technicals for tax purposes.

No, massive numbers of southern democrats turned republican over granting blacks civil rights.

I'm actually truly surprised that you didn't know about this. That's how the republicans got a ton of racists.

If you think the majority of the South went to war, during the 'civil war',
because on the 'freeing the slaves' part, you have been misinform.

It was because the north didn't want to redistribute their land, just the south's.

A similar land grab is happening now, but along somewhat different lines.

I'm afraid that civil unions are being disallowed as well. This is not about terminology..it's about equal access to services.

Could it be that a certain special intrest group has been fighting it all the way? Could it be some special group with extra rights is demanding access to the long established rite?

You know, I'm in no way against allowing the exact same rights under civil union. I just don't see a need to force the the rite to be changed to make certain peoples political agenda happy.

This isn't about the rite...nobody's forcing churches to marry SSCouples.
WE can't go back in time and change it all, you see there's this concept called social evolution. As it evolved the government adopted the rite as marriage as the standard.

Civil unions seems to be a dandy answer that doesn't destroy an institution that survived the societal evolution for many thousands of years.

Besides, it would only serve to bring more Islamic terrorism upon us. Who want to create more terror?

Cat, nobody was talking about the civil war. What was mentioned was southern Democrats moving to the Republican party over civil rights issues.

However much of the south tried to secede over slavery. Some states even declared it in their secession papers.

But the civil rights movement we were talking about was in the 50's and 60's.

Social evolution needs to allow straight or gay couples and not allow for bigotry based on sexual orientation. "Separate but equal" seemed like a dandy answer to many when blacks were fighting for their civil rights. It wasn't tho'.

Blacks have the exact same rights.
Homosexuals have the exact same rights.

although both are afforded extra protections.

Actually homosexual couples aren't allowed to marry each other in many states. That would be different rights.

Heterosexual couples are allowed special rights.
