Yeah, at least you have that option. Mine's blowing water through a crack in the casing. New pump time.

Why not just get it welded up? I'm sure you've a welding shop not to far away.

I can't see a simple weld costing more than $20. Hell, unless it's cast iron, Cat could probably do it.

Homey, yours isn't plastic? Note that you can weld plastic too.

Good to know. That's what most folks around here are pushing. Is that the 1 horse model?
3/4 HP. Horsepower is far from the most important factor. 1/2 horse would have been fine, I couldn't find one. GPM is what's important. I did this research when I changed mine, but now I can't remember. You want the GPM high enough to turn all your water in a certain time frame, but I don't remember what the figure is, sorry. Note that I have two skimmers and a drain. If I remember correctly, the less intake volume you have the higher the HP should be. I could have that wrong, but I remember it seeming counter-intuitive like that.

Right. I was simply thinking different HP might mean different motor.

And yes, it is a plastic deal.

Plastic pumps? What will they think of next?

HL, before you go investing 200 (unless you want to) check with your closest plumbing supplier or pool specialist. See if a new housing is worth the effort.

Dunno yet. The wife wants to just let it leak until it stops being functional. Gotta remember, this one has 10+ years on it.

Well, all it really does is recirculate chlorinated water through a filter, it doesn't have to be very heavy duty. :)

Again, I don't really remember specifics, but I'm a cheap bastard so I'm sure I investigated that avenue too. Seems like the cost savings just wasn't worth the price of the motor or something. I still have the old motor, just in case. It's pretty ratty looking though, and besides, I switched from 110 to 220 for the new one.

Great idea. Letting heavily clorinated water leak all over an electrical motor, and then onto the ground you kid plays on. Just kidding. I'm sure you've secured the area. Where was it, anyways? I don't recall seeing it.

In the gravel bed area, next to the A/C unit.It sprays an area that's just the chlorine hopper and some gravel. While V2.0 does play in the gravel, it's not in the wet area.

I'm not having any trouble with my car and I don't have a pool. But about 30 ceramic tiles fell off my shower wall last night. Does that count?

Pool's sorted. Actually, it would have been finished yesterday evening but the idiot reassembling the pump (wonder who that was) was trying to beat an incipient thunderstorm and fucked up the gasket between the motor flange and the pump. Working on the 4Runner now.
