so i went out for a smoke....

It's better to burrow into the snow and fuck in there. That way the temperature around you stays right at freezing instead of however far below that it is above the snow.

Snow caves, you mean? Only did that once. Takes too much prep time. If you're gonna get a girl to take off her clothes in -15C, you don't give her time to think about it. Usually you try to stay standing. With a little effort, you've soon got a cloud of steam rising off you, and that's more than enough to keep you from freezing.

But if you're gonna try it, you must have a method to dry off before you dress. If you put your clothes back on over the sweat, you've only minutes before hypothermia takes you out. 30 secs with a wool blanket and you're good as new.

In the snow cave, you really want 3 or 4 layers of wool blankets under you. And ventilate that puppy. You'd be amazed at how fast you can get the temp abouve 0C in there and start the roof melting.

But .... if you're a real adventurer, try the swedish method. You and your partner in a hot swedish sauna. (that's the dry heat, not the steam bath) Get your temps way up, and then dive into a snow bank and go for it. I've only done this one once, and I was half hammered at the time, so it's at your own risk. But the afterglow slams down with the chill in a way you're ever known was possible. And as soon as you're finished, get back into the sauna. You will die if you don't. (Be one helluva way to go, wouldn't it?)

Well it is safe to say that I don't want to live
ANYWHERE that for weeks at a time the daytime
high temperature doesn't even exceed the temperature
inside my fridge!

Obviously, you're not a beer drinker. Besides, if it was warmer, we wouldn't have anywhere to put all the moose meat.

ACK!!

Snowsquall warning for
Barrie - Collingwood - Hillsdale continued

Snowsqualls with dangerous travel conditions from whiteouts developing by Thursday morning.

An Alberta clipper over eastern Lake Superior this afternoon is intensifying into a winter storm as it races southeast to reach the Lake Ontario area by morning then into upstate New York Thursday. This developing storm is expected to generate a widespread high impact snow and strong wind event across much of the province.

Weather radar and surface observations show that a wall of snow in advance of this storm has reached the London area this afternoon. The snow will continue to spread east reaching the Golden Horseshoe area early this evening and into eastern Ontario tonight. Snowfall amounts will reach 15 to 25 centimetres along with drifting and some blowing snow as winds pick up out of the west on Thursday.

Snowsqualls will also develop off Georgian Bay and Lake Huron overnight and Thursday. These will create bands of particularly dangerous conditions with near zero visibilities in heavy snow and blowing snow which will extend well inland from the lakes. Conditions will slowly improve by Friday although some residual snow and snowsqualls will continue. Some thunder is also possible with the strongest snowsqualls.

Strong winds out of the west at 60 gusting to 90 km/h will compound the situation on Thursday in southwestern Ontario and over Prince Edward county. These winds will create near zero visibilities in whiteout conditions in the heavier flurries and snowsqualls..And will also be capable of causing some tree damage and bringing down power lines.

This may be a dangerous storm. Travel conditions will quickly deteriorate beginning later today over western parts and elsewhere tonight and will become extremely hazardous due to whiteout conditions from heavy snow and blowing snow. Temperatures will also plunge Thursday as the snowsqualls strengthen adding to the dangerous travel conditions with icy and snow covered roads in many areas.

Heavy snowfall warnings may also be extended into the national capital area later tonight or Thursday as necessary.

Please refer to the latest public forecasts for further details.

Nope...on the rah-dio, they're talking about 10-15cms of the white blowing shit tomorrow morning and another 5cms tommorrow.

You'd better have been smart and put your snow tires on by now, son ... or you're in shit creek and the crick's frozen over.

We're ready.

Got shovel(s), a load of salt, and everyone has hat, mitts, scarf, winter coat, boots.
