You looking into getting a digital SLR? Those are nice. I really thought about getting the Canon EOS Digital Rebel, but decided that for the way I use it and what I use it for, it's not worth quite that much money. So I looked for something with decent picture quality and the ability to fit in a picket. I'm pretty happy with my Sony Cybershot W1 so far.
I've heard great things about both cameras, the Canon and Sony. You hit on the most important factor to consider when buying a camera -- the way you use it and why. I look at it like computers, I wouldn't use the power that a $3500. laptop would buy me, so why bother? It's not that a "lesser" model isn't as good, it's as good as I want it to be.
Yes, a digital SLR is what we're going for. I want all the functionality I have now with my old one so that was a must. We were looking at the Nikon Coolpix which is highly rated and the price was right but you can't take the lens off the body. We looked into Minoltas and Canons also but settled on the
Nikon D70. Rusty has a friend who got one for Christmas so we were able to play with his for a while, see what it can do. We're going today to a trusted camera store to try it out, look at lenses, filters and talk pricing. This store routinely gives us deals on equipment so we'll probably wind up buying through them. But we're waiting until the return is deposited next week.
