A group of researchers claim that they are patenting a possible cure for cancer involving nothing more than sugar and short-chain fatty acid combination. [ Chemistry & Biology]

The Johns Hopkins researchers cautioned that their double-punch molecule, described in the December issue of the journal Chemistry & Biology, has not yet been tested on animals or humans.

Nevertheless, they believe it represents a promising new strategy for fighting the deadly disease, and have already filed an application for a U.S. patent covering this class of compounds.

Not the first I've heard of this.

In fact, wasn't there a speculative cure for, I think it was autism, found in a high-fat diet about 10 years back?
 
Either that or a high carb...Granted a persons diet plays a role in the health of the person but some forms of cancer or diseases are out right nasty...
 
Here's the thing...do we really want a potential cure for cancer in the hands of only ONE company? A monopoly on a cure...hmmm.

Let's charge $25,000 per dose....no...$100,000..no..

ONE Billion$$$

The Canadian medical system works so well because they do fix broken bones and do minor things quite inexpensively... as do all socialized medicine countries. Then they have the US to go into for real top level medical care when their systems start to put them on 'the list' to eventually be seen in 6 months or so while their condition and pain continues to fester.
 
Too many Doctors and nurses crossing over into Capitalist USA to earn the BIG bucks. :shrug:

Makes for long waiting lists in some cases, but I am happy to say that my Appendectomy cost me zero$ despite being in a solo room for 2 days post-op.

It's a balance. We pay higher taxes, but I don't have to pay for medical insurance nor hassle with insurers to pay off the hospital.:canada: :toast:
 
Has anyone in this conversation ever been diagnosed with cancer? Ever taken chemo personally?

If they find a cure for it, I give a rat's ass if they distribute it through Siberia. If it'll keep one person from having to endure that nightmare it's worth whatever it costs.
 
Damn right it is.

Until you've walked that path, you can never know what it's really like. Try as you might, as close as you may be with someone, as much time as you spend with them. You just can't know.

Its not a matter of staffing. The problem lies in the nature of government run healthcare itself. They have assigned a universal budget based upon statistics. These statistics declare that diagnostic machines are expensive... so we will only have 20 of 'x' spread throughout the whole country. Then they have to generate a waiting list for services. High level treatments are also rationed out... just hope you don't die waiting months on end. Socialized medicine is great for the bottom 80% of ills... but a nightmare for the top 20%.

Both my Mom's brother and sister had the BIG C. My Uncle died of his (lung cancer) post-chemo and my Aunt had a double mastectomy (no chemo) and is doing fine now.

Now..if they find a cure and people can't afford it or get to it, it's as useless as tits on a bull.
 
Believe me.. If there is a cure, it will get through. It might take a few years to get through the food chain into common usage... but it will get there. It is certainly not useless. The unfortunate reality if the world is that the vast, vast lionshare of rapid improvements are created either from war necessity or as a part of a for-profit capitalist economy. A wholesome 'for the greater good of humanity' approach might be a warm fuzzy for the soul... but that simply isnt found on planet Earth.
