i should add that i was a volunteer for a special needs camp. I am still on contact with that boss from time to time and he mentioned he hoped id one day return to it. i kind of miss it now in a way.

Hundreds of hours a year for the BSA (Troop/Post), food drives, blood drives and staff for other things too many to mention. I used to do 20-30 hours a week volunteering for one of the hospitals here. Done several houses for Habitat for Humanity.

I do not donate money. Only time and/or physical goods. :)

Blood donations, Pheresis donations, American Cancer Society, The Humane Society, The local parks system, The Fraternal Order of Police, the odd food donation and whatnot.

I donate to the SPCA, Avril Elizabeth Home for the Mentally Disabled (they specialise in the care of children living with Down's Syndrome and other mental afflictions), CHOC (Children's Hemeatology and Oncology Centre - they care for children suffering from cancer and Leukemia), Cotlands Baby Sanctuary (they care for AIDS orphans and children who have AIDS) and I do AIDS Awareness workshops.

I volunteer for what I can as I don't have a car. I alwyas put money in the fireman's boot, or Ronald McDonald house in the drive through and stuff. My donations aren't huge as I don't have much extra cash. But I give what I can. I always donate old jackets and canned food to the drives and the school drive they have everyyear I put some supplies in the box.

i dont give money to any group. i've learned that it only encourages everybody to stick their hand out.

I don't like to spend my money or time in those kinds of things, i'm disapointed.

Thou, sometimes I give money to old people.

What do you mean? The charities sell your information to other charities and they contact you? I've never had that happen to me but maybe I just picked the right charities. I know the PBA will do that though, they keep calling constantly till you send 'em a check to shut them up.

What about your time? Doing what you do, and the amount of selflessness it requires, I thought you would probably have donated your time at some point or another.

what little money i have goes to the tommyj needs a new pair of [climbing] shoes fund. i prefer to give my time, i find that the visible result is more rewarding. i do as much with the boy scouts as my erratic work schedule allows. as for work, it's practically volunteering anyways (i'm a climbing instructor at the YMCA, for those that don't know) and i think once i'm done with school and working full time i'll probably switch to volunteering there, or donating what i make. the free Y membership is worth helping expose people to something i love to do.

i sent some cash to a couple of charities a few years back. for a good 6 months after, my mailbox was flooded with requests for money. the amount of stuff some of those charities stuff into an envelope is amazing.
if some kid has been forced to beg for spare change for band uniforms or youth sports programs, i always stuff some money in the can or buy some of the stuff they are selling.

i've never really looked into donating my time.

I barely have enough money to live by, let alone donate to charity at the moment. Of course, if anyone wants to donate to MY charity, I'd be more than happy to lift the money off your hands! :D

I currently donate about five bucks a month to greenpeace, but I want to change it to WWF or something similar. I'm a regular blood donor.

Ooops, forgot to mention earlier (mainly cos I didn't see it as charity).........I donate my red alcohol 4 times a year :)
