A TECH CHILD prodigy who hit the headlines in 2002 by having an identification microchip implant has been killed in a motorbike accident.

According to the Palm Beach Post, Derek Jacobs lost control of his 2005 Yamaha, struck and slid along a guardrail, hit a curb and slammed into a wooden pole, throwing and killing him. Police say he was not speeding or drunk.

Jacobs first hit public attention at age 12 when he became the youngest Microsoft-certified systems engineer, qualifying him to run the computer network of a medium to large corporation.

At 14 he and his parents each had a VeriChip implanted in their arm in a procedure broadcast on NBC's Today show. At age 16 he went straight to Florida International University near Miami, joining the College of Engineering. Hehad given up on the idea of being a techie and was planning to become a neurosurgeon
