22m credit cards checked
By Jan Libbenga

German police have arrested over 300 people in ten different states after detectives analysed credit card transactions from 22m customers.

The 322 suspects paid $79.99 for 20-day access to a child porn website in the Philippines, according to Saxony-Anhalt state Interior Minister Holger Hoevelmann.

German data privacy laws do not allow the police to run a broad database search, so in this case they narrowed it down to one specific receiver account.

The police didn't even have access to the data itself, the credit companies carried out all of the matching. During several raids, photographs, videotapes and computers were confiscated as evidence.

The operation dubbed Mikado is the biggest of its kind with 14 credit card companies participating voluntarily. A similar operation in the UK, Operation Ore, included the details of 7,000 individuals.

Scrutinising all transactions of all credit cards on a nationwide scale may be a completely novel approach, but it is also highly questionable, the head of the German lawyers association DAV told the Reutlinger General-Anzeiger newspaper.

If this means you .... start running. They are a'commin

I misread it and almost soiled my undies. I misread the opening line and thought there were 22,000,000 child porn credit card runs. I thought to myself... man... everyone in Germany must have downloaded it.

It could be read that way, very misleading...It's still 22milion CC receipts, that's a whole shit load...

I think maybe you guys aren't reading that right. What they're doing is they've got the porn ring, and they've asked the credit card companies to examine all their transactions for any which pay to that porn ring's acc't. The credit card companies are then handing over any transactions found. The credit card companies have examined 22 million transactions and fingered 300 people in the process.

See, I read it as 22m is a corporation name. It clearly states how many suspects there were who paid for this filth.

Could be wrong. Wouldn't be news if I am.
