On Sunday, August 15, a 16-year-old girl in the town of Neka, northern Iran, was executed. Ateqeh Sahaleh was hanged in public on Simetry Street off Rah Ahan Street at the city center.

The sentence was issued by the head of Neka’s Justice Department and subsequently upheld by the mullahs’ Supreme Court and carried out with the approval of Judiciary Chief Mahmoud Shahroudi.

In her summary trial, the teenage victim did not have any lawyer and efforts by her family to recruit a lawyer was to no avail. Ateqeh personally defended herself. She told the religious judge, Haji Rezaii, that he should punish the main perpetrators of moral corruption not the victims.

The judge personally pursued Ateqeh’s death sentence, beyond all normal procedures and finally gained the approval of the Supreme Court. After her execution Rezai said her punishment was not execution but he had her executed for her “sharp tongue”.

Geez...how small is that judge's penis to have 16 year old girl hang because she out witted him!!!

What was her intial crime?
 
I read this on Fark recently...some of them researched...and figured that her crime was being raped. :shrug:

thats not a fucking crime. the crime is done by the perpetrstors. they are teh ones who should be hung. She committed no crime. bastard judge
 
You say that almost as though you think this is something new over there. She's actually better off than a lot of rape victims; at least the state killed her instead of her father doing it.
 
I honestly was not aware as to how harsh it was over there. I know it is nothing new and that it is in some sense a dishonour but I still dont like the situation. blaming the victim in a case like this instead of the perpetrator.
 
This is only a small taste of what goes on outside the major 15 or 20 countries in the world.

Eric, imagine going to a small Mexican resort for vaction. You're on the beach for 7 days, relaxing, enjoying some time off. You eat well & drink well & rest well. Much thanks to the corporation that supplied the beautious spot in the sun. You tip generously the staff that served yo so well & they are quite thankful. It's time to go home. Then you board the aircraft & depart. On your way home you look down, over this little resort community & notice, for the first time since you had limited acess to the outside, that there are no paved roads, save for the area's near where you were & the airport. The dirt roads are not in front of Mexican architectured little hovels. They connect lean-to's, shanty's, thatch roofs. Area's of squalor. In your country they would be considered homeless squattings. Here, as in most places on earth, they're home. The local constabulary is often the power & he has complete say so...piss him off & you & yours may end up as buzzard bait.

As already pointed out, this story is only a minute particle of what happens out there.
 
a guy here set fire to his girlfriend twice, a few days ago, after he tied her up, because she broke up with him. afterwards he made a rapsong about it, which is quite popular here now. both were 16 yrs old. guess we should send him to iran. seems like they're quite easy about killing young people.

highly disturbing to see what the world is turning into. or already has turned into.

for the people who can respect others. unfortunately it's usually only a small percentage of people who is fucking things up for the majority. sigh.

Little more on the story.
Three months ago, during her appearance before the local court, fiercely angry the young girl hurled insults at the local judge, Haji Reza, who is also the chief judicial administrator of the city, and it is said as another expression of protest took off some of her clothes in the courtroom. This act by the young girl made the administrator so furious that he evaluated her file personally and in less than three months received a go-ahead from the Islamic Republic’s Supreme Court for her execution. The animosity and anger of Haji Reza was so strong that he personally put the rope around the girl’s delicate neck and personally gave the signal to the crane operator, by raising his hand, to begin pulling the rope.

that is a bit harsh of a statement. but that doesnt make it any less true.

It doesn't surprise me in the least. She pissed off a powerful man and he decided to 'put her in her place'. :shrug: It doesn't matter what she went in for in the first place. She was doomed the moment she gave him (an obviously superiour being) any lip.

Kind of like 'contempt of court'...but in spades.

As for Mexico...the same goes in Jamaica, where the average wages for a high-end hotel maid is 100 J$/day...current conversion.

1US$ = 61.6064 J$ + So....about $1.35/day.
