Here we go again... Hurricane Rita now Class 4, Texas, New Orleans prepare...

Still won't be pretty.

I'm wondering if rebuilding there is such a good idea. (below sea level).
There's some less-populated are to the west of NO, which must be above sea level, cause it didn;t seem to have flooded.

You're not the only one. Withing hours of it being flooded, there was a movement started to prevent it being rebuilt on the same site. But you've got the historic buffs whining and complaining, and we all know that the whiners always win.

It ain't just that. You have port facilities there that are next to impossible to replicate or move. If those are there (and the argument can now be made that they must be), they create jobs. Jobs create population.

Blame the French. They're the stupid bastards who started it there.

Better yet...don't rebuild at all. Blow the levees, and let nature take it's course. I apologize to anybody who lost property or loved ones there, but if you live in a bowel, expect a disaster.

Galveston basically did that after the 1900 deal. If you'll notice. Rita had 'em sweating bullets.

NO will be back, exactly where it was. It might, however, take a decade to grow back to the same size.

I don't disupte that they're stupid bastards... but in their defense, the French Quarter by and large stayed dry.

Even the flood hates the French...:D

But it wouldn't be Rita water.

I just had a thought. Wouldn't it be a lark if someone in the US tried to demand that water back from canada, since the first landfall it made was on their land?

Nahh, I think air-space rules are different from nautical, from land rules :swing:

Don't Atlantic hurricanes start near Africa; couldn't they say they want their water back?
