yeah everyone should just keep throwing around caricatures and generally acting like a 12 year-old trying to win a playground argument. very dignified. and produces, quick, actionable, and effective decisions. just like congress.

This nation was formed as an adversarial system of government. We have had numerous parties in the past -- Bullmoose, Whig, Federalist, etc. -- but we now basically have a two party system. The others are offshoot parties usually formed in the heat of some dispute or the PC du jour.

All but the first two are barely visible blips on the radar...scarecely worth debate..and certainly not debate on TV. Where are the nationally televised debates 'twixt McCain and The Socialist Party leader? Obama and teh Green Party leader?

With a few pages of names and enough money, I can form a political party... doesn't make it a POLITICAL PARTY - like the Dems and Reps, though. Not by a Loooooong stretch of the imagination. :horse:

I have talked to numerous people on the Libertarian Party and nearly to a person they say "I don't like their position on drugs". If they would merely drop that plank from their platform they could become a major player in American politics.
 
Their position being don't like 'em don't do 'em? Do the people you speak with think it's their job to tell others what they can and can't do...or do you think they just fear the ramifications of such a stand?

It'd be nice to have a decent, round table war of ideas. Instead we get "you're stupid" and "I know you are but what am I".

Disagree with a premise? Present alternatives. Detail your reasoning as to what is wrong with the idea. Add to the idea. Something besides childish rantings.

You do realize, I hope, that that post is the epitome of the "Don't try to confuse me with facts. My mind is made up." Your idea of an exchange of ideas is that everyone exchange their ideas for your ideas with full embrace.

If they don't see it your way, they are dittoheads. If they march lockstep with you then they are forward thinking intelligencia.
