New Orleans is sinking and I don't wanna swim!

Y'know. If they were smart, they'd just let it alone for a couple of years, and let it fill up with silt.

But then, if they were smart, they'd have built somewhere that wasn't below sealevel. Idjits.

Well.... the storm itself is over but the damage remains.

Linky

Deaths estimated to run well into the hundreds as rescuers try to find and remove people who refused to evacuate low-lying areas. Approximatly 80% of new orleans is flooded with between 3' and 20' of water thanks to some collapsed dikes. What a mess!!

Bush's solution: :banghead: Gotta protect oil prices!!!

It's $3.199 gallonn as of 4PM. When do the oil war benefits start paying off?

So, martial law is in place, the looting was out of control. Wonder when looters will be shot on sight?

When somebody with some cajones takes charge. It's not PC to shoot bad guys.

The governer of LA has ordered everyone out of N.O., but forgot some very important details...

1. How many buses is this going to take?
2. Are the roads up to it?
3. Houston's Astrodome is better than the Superdome, but it's still a stadium.
4. How is N.O. ever going to get cleaned up without blowing the levee's and starting from scratch? The place is filled with raw sewage, sludge, and dead bodies. Nice for alligators and sharks, but not so good for the living. :mope:

I am aghast at the inability of people to fend for themselves. In a city the size of New Orleans, I'd guess 5-10% of the population is physically or mentally incapable of having enough sense to walk the fuck outta there. There was a camera shot of a room full of men, adult men, waving a white "help me I'm a victim" flag.

Here's an idea...
start walking & swimming.

I have no sympathy for those who choose to be weak.

Unfortunately, it's much too late for that. Hell...it was too late to start walking when the storm was 12 hour out. While I am a great fan of listening to weather warnings, and will evacuate with the first uttering of the word, the same cannot be said for all people. Some folks don't have one of the two necessary items for such a trip...money or transportation. That being said, the adults who are stranded there need to be left behind, but the children should be brought to safety. Maybe they'll listen next time.

Those few without transportation or money to drive 100 miles inland are the exception. Those that can walk to WalMart & steal bad jewelry can walk outta town right now. The very ones telling the state food stamp official about their bad back were seen carrying a 31" HDTV yesterday.

Shoot to kill.

It was a 43" Samsung. :p

BTW...the average human being walks 3 miles per hour. This is pretty much unencumbered. The average military grunt can quick-step...with full combat load (85 pounds)...at around 4-5 miles per hour. Now you have to stop for a rest about every 2 to 4 hours to either eat/drink, or crap/piss. You do the math at how far they would've gotten in 24 hours...if they don't stop to sleep. ;)

Those that didn't leave pre-devastation can still leave. They don't have to go to work anytime soon. I am disgusted by the "where's the boss" syndrome.

In the event of a national tragedy, we're fucked.

It's not 'Where's the boss?'...it's closer to...'Where do I need to go?'. Most, if not all, of those people have never left NO in their lives. Most cities are like that...down to the village level. Remember your home town? How many people still live there, and have never really left? Add to that the fact that most were led to believe that they were evacuated at least three times last year for hurricanes that never came, and you'll have a greater understanding of what happened...;)

Phoenix. ;) Although I can say that not one of the 10-15 people I knew best still live within 20 miles of our growing up neighborhood & of them, 8 are in NYC or LA.
