House arrest for former N.B. teacher
SHEDIAC, N.B. (CP) - A former teacher won't go to jail for having sex with a 13-year-old male student.
Renee Florence Gaudet, who was 27 at the time of the offence last June, pleaded guilty in November to assault. She was sentenced Thursday. Gaudet was placed on house arrest for two years less a day with a number of conditions. They include that she go to a mental health clinic for assessment and treatment, if necessary.
She is also barred from having contact with the victim or his family, or anyone under 14 years of age.
Gaudet must also provide a DNA sample to the national sex-offender registry.
She was fired from her teaching position at Edgar T. LeBlanc School after the incident.
