Nuclear weapons are GOOD

They've stopped the spread of general warfare through countries that have them & most countries that want to be friends with those that have them. The strategy of assured (mutual) destruction works. Once again, it's working.

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan (AP) - India and Pakistan took a giant leap to put more than a half-century of bloodshed behind them, agreeing Tuesday to start talks next month on core disputes of nationalism and religion that have taken the nuclear-armed nations into three wars.

Read & weep on how nukes saved mankind

The same can be said about computers and nukes. They were assumed to be made to solve problems that wouldn't exist if they weren't invented...

Nuclear weapons are GOOD

if they are so good at preventing war why is it we get so miffed when everyone wants one?

Let's see, They create a nuclear weapon.....it's a nightmare, to prevent country a from using it country b has to have it too

how is this good?

now is countries a-z get rid of all the nukes it will be status quo,

no nukes would be a good thing

Perhaps if it had said "Anything that deters nations from going to war is good" , it would've been a better statement. Nukes aren't good...but fear of mutually assured destruction and the peace it brings as a fringe benefit are good things.

Unfortunatly...not a permanent thing. Ask Afghanistan if it was afraid of the nukes that the USA has when it attacked the World Trade towers...
Ask North Korea why they don't stop threathening the USA when they know that they could be turned into so much dust within hours of an attack...

it's not as powerful a deterrant as you might imagine it to be, and it's losing it's shine. Time to build a better weapon.

The sad thing is, now that nukes are here, they are here to stay. It's the same as the gun argument here in the states now. It's my belief that a great number of Americans would gladly give up thier guns if they really thought that the criminals wouldn't have access to them either, but, since they do, nobody wants to give up theirs.

Go to nukes, there is no way any country that has them now is going to just give them up unless they are guaranteed that everyone else is giving them up too. But then who do you give them up to? The US? LOL....

Unless they make something that jsut kills the leaders, no better weapons please, how many ways must we find to kill each other.

*longs for the days of the pointy stick*

....Taliban, not Afghanistan

OK rephrasing - ask the former government of Afghanistan ...

Same diff...it's not a guarantee of fear or awe anymore.

Sticks...nah...I much prefer Swords, spears, maces etc... now THAT would make for good television! er...what am I saying...er, less deaths and umh...nevermind. Nuke'em till they glow and shoot'em in the dark. :lloyd:

[infomercial voice]scared of nuclear fallout you say?

why, it's man's way of controling nature, why now, thanks to nuclear winter,we can cross country ski in the everglades, and by gosh, those cannibal mutants make great housekeepers (just watch the pets)

and after a long day at work, scavanging for safe drinking water, you can curl up and read by the light of your hamster[infomercial voice/]

Oh...and if we did destroy all the worls nuclear stockpiles....

what would we do with all the radioactive materials???

That is the other problem with nukes, when we do get tired of them, you can't just toss them out
