optoutprescreen.com -- are these guys legit?

Never heard of them. Verisign...on the bottom...aren't they a BBB of online sites?
 
unless i'm mistaken, verisign is just a certificate authority made a virtual monopoly by its supporters. all you need to get a certificate is $395
 
Not many thieves bother with a certificate. It's not the be all & end all of glad tidings but it is a stepping stone toward less concern.
 
if i were going to fleece people for all their personal/financial information, i'd consider the cost of a cert an investment. the fact that i heard about it through an official University publication lends it more credibility, but i'm still leery.
 
I agree wholeheartedly. A very good investment. Tis a good thing most thieves are lazy idiots.
