She says yes, that's how she understands it. It's for putting on the scar. She's an oncology nurse though, so she doesn't generally deal with it.

I had one of those (I guess I was about 10) from bacon grease straight out of the oven slopped all up the inside of my arm. Dad thought it wasn't serious and put butter on it :eek: which didn't help.

Anyway, it hurt like hell for a long time, but just so you know, with no real scar-type aftertreating at all it had faded to almost nothing by my mid teens, and since about 20, I've had to actually peer to see it (except in summer, see below). It should go away for her very nicely.

Something to keep in mind - I found I have to sunscreen it every summer, as the spots will tan up like crazy even though it was on my inner arm which never tans at all. So especially over the next few years, remember to focus especially to sunscreen that part to help the scars continue to fade.

About the bath - Try a Kitchen Catcher around her arm + duct tape + her promise to keep it up on the side of the tub. If she gets the importance of keeping it up, it should be ok. That's how I did it when I was burnt. I was older, but we managed baths with Avery and his casted broken arm at age 2 ok, and ten minutes in plastic wrap shouldn't hurt her healing any.
 
Malory and I were comparing burn spots. I have a few small scars on my left arm from when some hot greasy cornmeal came out of the oven to attack me one day when I was working at the pizza joint.
 
Thanks, Leslie. I never would have thought that the new skin would be more sensitive to the sun. I had a burn from a moped on my leg, it was visible for a while but I covered it with a tattoo :nerd:

Yes, silver sulfadiazine cream is good , but i'm pretty sure the would has to be closed before use of it. It worked great when my boys were little and had a "BAD" diaper rash, no open wounds though.
 
Pardon me whilst I cry for my baby...I had a few like that in the Navy...TA, remember the scar on my left forearm? I didn't take very good care of it, and you can still just BARELY see it...that looks horrible, but I'm glad she's being a trooper...lots of kisses from Daddy, OK? Please?:crying6:
 
Sure thing. Today starts the "Don't pick at it, Mally" routine. Before no one could touch it, now she is picking away.
 
Maybe the doctor would ok putting some anti-itch stuff around the edges?

It's gotta be hella itchy. :(
 
It's apparently not itchy yet. It is starting to scab and flake and I remember that being quite irresistable to little fingers.

Tonks, the RX cream will greatly reduce the scarring. You will however, like Leslie said, have to take extra care after healing by using sunscreen on it. The RX cream has actual silver in it, so if she gets some of it on something white it will turn it gray/black. Don't worry, it will wash out, just use a little laundry pretreater. My Dad's face and hands got burned pretty bad quite a few years ago and the Doc gave him the same cream. He had absolutely NO scarring that we could find after it all healed.
 
Thanks - it is healing up nicely. I think that all the scabbing will be gone in a couple of days. Then it will be time for the mederma and I shall save the rest of the cream for future burns that hopefully will not occur.
