Powell speech to the UN

Do you think removing Sadam is going to cause terrorism to cease & desist? I think you are pulling a Jerrek on us with a question like that....talk about loaded...sheesh.:D

It was intriguing. Listening to the cold, brutal truth without allowing emotional interference. He didn't add much new information but he did do a spectacular job in presenting evidence. For those of you wanna-be French. Ask yourself this, would you prefer our president being wrong and ridding the world of a dictator or would you prefer a mushroom cloud over paris or a nerve gas canister being uncorked at California & Van Ness? Maybe you'd prefer anthrax in the US Senate.

How about the possibility that starting a war in the middle east could destabilize the whole region ending up with nukes detonated in quite a few cities around the world. All of which would have been avoided through a peaceful solution.

It hasn't been very long at all since we started intensive inspections....a couple months really.

Oh that's right. Sorry. This is history ignorance class 101. In 1990 saddams army invaded Kuwait. The UN Security Council voted for use of force to remove them. The US led coalition chased them out of Kuwait in about 100 hours. They ran like rabbits from a coyote. saddam signed his pledge to a mandate from the UN to stop before we say stop again & allow weapons inspectors to verify he is destroying offensive weapons. It was a cat & mouse game that lasted off & on for 7 years. saddam fianlly had enough &kicked the UN inspectors out. Unfortunately, the US was being lead by a man who's brains were in his dick & couldn't spell honorable, much less live like he had any. He huffed & puffed & got blown & then said "saddam is a really bad man. He then proceeded to pass a resolution of force to put an end to the insanity of the toothless UN mandates but decided that BJs were more important. Which leads us to Dubya & the current situation.

I could also include the Panamanians in this but that would be pointless because we're discussing Iraq.

Was this in response to one of the earlier posts? I don't see the relevance.

We're discussing US policy that lead to an Iraq situation. Did you forget we were arming Iran when they were at war with Iraq? And they're supposed to love and respect us now?

I belive Unclehobart answered this quite concisely in another thread.

On the other hand, how did arming Iraq lead to invading Kuwait? I miss the leap.

Point being that intensive inspections just recently started, they haven't been going on for 12 years. You seemed to indicate that we've just been trying the same thing without success all these years when that's not true.

Things really only stepped up in intensity after we weren't able to find Osama.

WHat about the other 7 years? They don't exist? He did the same thing then.

i thought the human rights afterthought was cute. it really convinced me that we aren't going into iraq for the oil....
