No, I think. Maybe. I don't like the idea of the military patrolling, but it is sort of their job, protecting the country from aliens. I won't mind if the people (ie border patrol, civilians) use their intelligence and equipment though.

I say yes why not(if they're not doing anything else). If we' re not going to keep illigal immigrants from entering the country then why don't we just grant all 8 million illegal immigrants citizenship. At least that way they'd be paying taxes and they wouldn't have the burden of the illigal status. Also, it would be hella cheap since we're already paying the military anyway.

this thing about the border is getting ridiculous, it pisses me off in two ways:

-mexicans that will cross it illegaly, period, that's just wrong.
-yanks that claims their country is a country of immingrants but will refuse mexicans.

Last time I checked Latinos constituted the highest % of immigrants into the states. They are about 5 1/2-6% of the population base and constitue the fastest growing segment of the population.

The legal process to get a permission (called visa or bisa don't know which) to enter the USA is a pain in the arse. You have to pay the US embassy US$100 and that only gives you the right to have an apoinment, then all the questioning and ridiculous process to get a damn permission. That's what pisses me off about them claiming USA is a country of immigrants.

unc, that's why i said(if they're not doing anything else)

Luis G, we can only let so many people in at once. If we didn't stop the flood we'd be overrun by a billion immigrants and then we'd be no better off then those poorer countries. Instead we hand out hundreds of billions of dollars to other countries who never pay us back and encourage them to learn from our example. And we've done well. At the turn of the century there was a handful of democratic capitalist nations. Now, a hundred years later the majority of the worlds countries have followed our example. That's absolutely amazing. Nothing like that has ever happened before. Give us another hundred years and the rest of the world will be wealthy to.

That applies to everyone. You make it seem as if its targeted against Mexicans only. Background checks are time intensive and quite expensive. The basic paperwork for Social Security and healthcare and such are unreal no matter what country you would go to. The $100 is probably just a little barrier to chop away the less than serious.

HeXp£Øi±, the mexicans that go to the USA take the jobs that many of you don't want. I don't see how that's going to hurt your economy, is not like you are making them chairman chief in a big company.

The problem with the mexicans is that they come over here thinking it's their land, not knowing the first thing about us and our Constitution, and still pledging allegiance to Mexico. Viva la Mexico!
We have no way of "teaching" them unless we put them in civics type classes. They're not paying taxes by being here illegally.

i personally don't know the case of the rest of the countries, except for Canada and as far as i know they can cross freely. and the "aimed at mexicans only" thing is because the subject was about our border.

"the mexicans that go to the USA take the jobs that many of you don't want"

First off i think that's an exaggeration.
Second, How does it hurt our economy? It hurts unions, when you can hire somebody for ten bucks a day why would you want to hire legal? Second it keeps the minimum wage supressed. The working man is central to this country and that's who it hurts. On top of that, they don't pay taxes like the rest of us and on top of that we pay for their children to go to school and use other resources without paying their way. It hurts.

most of the things you said apply to illegal immigrants. i'm complaining about the process of making it harder for mexicans to go there and claiming is a country of immigrants.

to answer your original question, although my opinion is irrelevant on your side, i think it is a good idea, and is also a good idea to shot the guy that crossed illegaly but ONLY after he crossed the border.

Ok, first off, it's a Visa, Luis.

Next, I think we are a country of immigrants, we are just slightly selective about which ones we'll let in. For instance, if you tried to get in, you probably would, you're educated, speak english, and have some idea of our history. Now the mexican that lives on the border town and steals to eat, speaks spanish only, but can't read or write, will probably not get in. Fair? Not quite, you have a chance to make a life for yourself there, while the other guy doesn't have much of chance where he is, but might if he moved to the US, even if he did pick vegetables for the first five years he was here.
