2001 government statistics: http://www.ins.usdoj.gov/graphics/aboutins/statistics/IMM2001.pdf

last year was the 5th largest amount in immigration in the last century. 1,064,318 immigrants. 206,426 were from Mexico. Thats three times larger than any other country.

I think your opinion is relevent. Morals are involved here, human beings. I have taken into account the suffering of those mexicans who live in poverty. I would do the exact same thing were i in their shoes. As far as shooting them, i would never consider it. It's not that i have something against these people crossing the border, it's just that in my view the stability of the united states will best be maintained by keeping a healthy balance of our economic system. I just feel the need to explain here that i'm not some grandious American sitting on my pedistal trying to wield my wand of power and grant only the select few worthy immigrants access to my country. Rather i believe that the world, and especially poverty stricken/suffering nations depend on the stability of United States. I want to grant access to as many immigrants as i feel is economically feesable. I think most Americans feel this way. You know we could let in two hundred million people tomorrow and it still wouldn't compare to all the good this country has done. If you look at the amount of money that the united states has given to other nations in need of aid the numbers are just staggering! And the awesome thing about it is, that money didn't come from an omnipresent government purse with a bottomless pit, it came from hard working Americans disiring to do good and lesson the suffering around the world. We voted to give out our hard earned money.
In a nutshell, i think we Americans, this nation of immigrants, cares more than the rest of the world understands. I hope this doesn't sound to cheesy.

NO to the US Military doing anything within our borders, besides training on their bases, when we aren't under direct assault.

Nat'l Gaurd is not regualr military & the corp of engineers are, well, engineers.

and this "Posse Comitatus Act"

it's too much like a police state. We have the various agencies in the Fedeal government, plenty of county sherrifs, city & state police. Don't give the military police powers. That is how coups are attempted.

What powers are you going to give them? They'd basically be bitches for border patrol. Doesn't sound to threatening to me.

Man you guys are Paranoid. and believe me i know Paranoid!

We had far and away more freedoms taken away in those days and we got them all back.

oops!

During WWII i mean.

Never give up a right. Fight for it, tooth, fang & claw (rifle, handgun & bayonnette if necessary). Governments, ours included, are far too willing to take them, in the name of safety (or for the kids) & have proven far too unwilling to return them. During crises, WWII fits, it becomes inevitable. That doesn't mean I will give them willingly or freely. We are the government, not John Ashcroft & his cronies. They are elected by us, to do our bidding. It's already time to begin taking our rights back, given on 09/11/01.

HeXp£Øi±, i said the shooting thing because i see things from your side, you guys have a real problem, i know some people that claim crossing the border is easier than going to the shop and buy a coke. OK, maybe the killing guys was way out of hand, but threatening them to go back or be shot would work ok.

I've heard several stories about how immigrants surrender and still they get shot, i think it is sad and is amoral, but the guys crossing illegaly are also wrong. I don't point out for guilties, just as my first post, i have two opinions about our border, both of them pick the bad side of both sides.

this thing about the border is getting ridiculous, it pisses me off in two ways:

-mexicans that will cross it illegaly, period, that's just wrong.
-yanks that claims their country is a country of immingrants but will refuse mexicans.

I would comment but this topic pisses me off.

Oh come on, Bubba. Surely you haven't forgotten how it works around here, that's when you are SUPPOSED to comment.

I say yes why not(if they're not doing anything else). If we' re not going to keep illigal immigrants from entering the country then why don't we just grant all 8 million illegal immigrants citizenship. At least that way they'd be paying taxes and they wouldn't have the burden of the illigal status. Also, it would be hella cheap since we're already paying the military anyway.

Our job is to defend against all enemies, foreign and domestic. I don't think illegal aliens fall into either catagory. As for the 'not doing anything else' statement, I think you have no idea what you're talking about. Our job is to fight and win wars. To do that, we spend quite a bit of time training just to do that. As much as 'the taxpayers' don't want to hear that, training is most decidedly not 'doing nothing'. Besides...if you really want to open that can of worms, then I suggest you write your congressman, asking to repeal the Posse Comitatus Act. I warn you, though, that the military is not like your local police force, and our methods, although perfectly legal, are a bit more intense than your local jail.
