Two Lips and an angel

Beautiful flowers and angel. :D

I keep meaning to sow some flowers in my pots, but the weather has been awful these last few days, you'd think it was winter again!
 
I noticed your pots when you posted pictures, looks like you get some good light in your backyard too. :D Give me time, I'll slowly wear you down till you're addicted like Q is. ;)

You know what's great and requires no maintenance at all and will double it's number year after year? Morning Glory. I had them last year and they grew like crazy and dropped their seeds all over the place. But they're vines and you have to have a trellis or something that they can twine on. They're so pretty!
 
My morning glories are trying to strangle my "leftover parts" taco bell lawn dog. I swear.:eek:
 
Front yard....my "backyard" is the apartment behind me. :D This will give you a basic idea of what it looks like. (except mine should be featured on one of HGTV's landscaping programs :D )

The problem with my backyard is that it has 2 very distinct areas and it's not very big, about 30 feet by 20 feet. The pots you saw are against the sheds and get lots of sunlight and VERY hot.... I've decided to look for some mediterranian plants soon that like those conditions. There's a place called Beth Chatto's Gardens not too far from here that specialises in those sorts of plants and when I get some time I intend to visit. So far all the plants I've tried have died. :(

The other areas are always in shade (house and 6ft wall) my hostas love it though and so do the slugs and snails! I want to create a raised bed full of woodland plants beneath my kitchen window and a water feature, but it all takes time and I can't do the heavy work myself. The ground is like concrete at the moment and in the winter it's a swamp - the hazards of living on a hill I suppose. I also want to build a pergola against the sheds with a seating area beneath and pave and gravel the rest of the garden apart from the raised beds. Eventually I hope to have a nice courtyard style garden and no grass to cut! That will be easier to move around in with a wheelchair. :D

If there's one thing those people taught me, it's that you have potential no matter what your conditions. :)

Here's the rest of her photos and she has a really cool looking water thing in there somewhere, I think you might like it. It's a bunch of clay pots draining into each other; the birds that visit her backyard love it.
 
Wow! That's really lovely. I'm thinking of alternatives to trying to dig in the garden - it's impossible without a pickaxe! And unless I pay someone, which I can't afford, the hardscaping is out. I don't really have any topsoil, the grass has been laid directly over the original builders rubble. I'm trying to think of alternatives for the pergola. I think I need to draw up a plan and decide what to put where.

Maybe I should use big pots rather than a raised bed. I could put down a membrane over the existing grass and cover it with gravel to stand them on and instead of trying to dig out a hole for the reservoire for my water feature I should look for one that has it built in above ground - I quite fancy an old butlers sink with an old fashioned hand-pump or something similar.

But I think I'll start small this year and look for my mediteranian plants first, and maybe a couple of climbers for the wall that like shade. In the autumn when the ground gets a bit softer I'll see about increasing the paved area for seating. It just takes time I suppose and the right choice of plants. I really need to make a few trips to the garden centre for ideas.

I have some junk in the garden at the moment that needs taking away. I have one more piece to put out when I've got a new armchair for my livingroom, after I've arranged that I will take a photo to show you just how small it really is.... I may have over estimated the size.... I think I better measure it as well!
 
I haven't done much, and i dunno if i am gonna. If i work in Luton i might pack up and go there (sell here) or rent/lease this place out.
 
Yeah Aunty, I think that sounds good! Containers are great because they're easily moved around when you get bored of them and you can control the size of what's in it. I was thinking about putting a dogwood tree in a container because they grow really fast if you don't prune them and keep their roots contained. I would have to wait till I know what our next place is going to be like, what kind of light I'm going to have.

I do strictly containers except for my tulips and I have no problems with it except for drying out in the summer heat; you would have to water them more often or put a sprinkler out back or something. Whatever you do, I would love to see pics!

Justin, you're right, it probably doesn't make sense to do anything with your lawn or start bushes or plants. But the offer still stands if you want to pay for my airfare, I'll be your personal gardener for a couple of weeks. :D

I think that happens when I click the Submit Reply button and nothing happens. So I click on Preview Reply, then click on Submit Reply and it goes through. I think it's something to do with my IE at work, I have so many problems posting from here.
 
It's not your problem, trust me. I have trouble using any site from work. I log in to secure sites to order computers and supplies and such, and if I happen to take a phone call in the middle of it or something, I'm screwed. Because it times out my connection or something. So what I've gotten to doing is typing out my reply and then copying the whole thing just in case it doesn't go through. Then I just open a new IE window and paste it in again.

Yet there's nothing wrong with the network or the firewalls. :rolleyes:
 
i'll have to take my camera next time i deliver flowers, the cooler at the shop is beautiful with all the flowers packed in it
 
Flower shops and nurseries are the best places to take pictures as long as they'll let you do it without buying anything. ;)

My birthday is in August, and I want a macro lens for the camera. I have a zoom lens and a regular lens but not a macro. You can get such better shots of flowers with them, I think.
