That article is being updated almost daily as details come in. So... it may not have been during the defence of an innocent being removed from the site.

I'll give you the benefit of the doubt here and hope that after you've read some other accounts of the incedent you realize they were in control. They did the only thing they could do at the time.
Partially.

5 minutes? After he's dead? That's overkill?

Just a question here, how many rounds do you think the average person can shoot out of a 9mm service pistol in 5 minutes?

This thing didn't take place in 5 minutes. It took over two hours. But when the final shootout started and one of the cops got hit, it was over quickly. I highly doubt the cops were still firing 5 minutes after the two were dead.
It was a joke, PT. Very tongue in cheek.

I meant to say that policy is to stop firing 5 minutes after the guy is dead. The 5 minutes refered to "shortly after". Black humour and perhaps badly typed out...but there you have it.

... but sadly I have to go with Winky here, mother doesn't sound a whole lot more stable than father was. Basically, we probably just lost a future stripper/whore/goatfucking Internet pornstar.
Where'd you get that from?
the mother said:
"He had problems with depression, his business was not doing well," Lopez told KNBC-TV. "I told them that he needed help, he needs a psychologist, but please don't shoot. They didn't understand, and the police fired, like, 300 shots."
Doesn't sound whack to me. Sounds like a woman who lost her husband (whom she still loved or she wouldn't be asking for the cops to not shoot) and her daughter. How well would you do in an interveiw in similar circumstances?

Examine that statement again.

He was depressed, his business wasn't doing well. It's NOT HIS FAULT!!!!

By the end of the week, this woman is going to rationalize everything that happened as the fault of the system that didn't do enough to get her husband help. Nevermind the fact that it's his responsibility to get the help he needed. Nevermind the fact that she probably spent more time with him than anyone and would have been able to spot the warning signs.

I think they did understand, they understood they were being shot at.

Give you a situation here. Sniper shot is out of the question. You just can't get the angle you need for a good shot. What do you propose you do here? You're the expert, fill us in.

- Try as you might, you can't force people to go to a psychologist short of a court order and police enforcement. I've been there..believe me. Most people who have depression or mental issues believe that they're just fine..that's why many psych patients go off of their meds. She may well have known that he was depressed...many people are depressed. You just can't tell when someone'll crack and do something drastic until it's too late and already happening. That's why there are so many successful suicides out there. That's why when asked about a neighbour who killed all his family or something, most people will say "He was such a quiet guy".

They understood that they were being shot at. OK. So...he's in a building, he comes out guns a blazin' ... I'm assuming that they were under some sort of cover before he came out and not standing around in the open drinking a latté. Wait for the shot.

The cop who took the hit in the shoulder probably came out of cover to take a shot..enough to clear his gun-arm and head anyway. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and say that he wasn't shooting blindly. He gets hit...."officer down!" and then...

Take the shot if you can...with a strong attempt at not hitting the baby. Shoot at the legs, shoot at the head. A 19-month old girl doesn't cover that much body mass on an adult male. If you can't be relativly sure of your shot..don't take it.

We know that 11 officers took the shot. Did they take it because they were sure of a safe hit or because one of their own got hit?

My guess is they took the shot because they wanted to quit being shot at.

not to worry
it's the best thing that ever happened to
that biotch (the wife\baby spawner) she be a
freekin' zillionare once the settlement cheque clears.
