?( So when was I part of a communist regime?
Definitely. Far from as extreme as the USSR, but it is a sliding scale, and the democrats are definitely leaning towards communism/socialism/marxism/leninism/whatever you want to call it.

And the republicans lean toward Facism/Nazism....whatever you want to call it. But I don't need to slide the bar to the extreme just because someone is right wing. Why do you feel the need to do that to me? I am not communist. But I have a mind, and the power of thought. Challenge my thoughts as you will. But don't feel the need to abstract them.

I'm with Gato on this one. Voting down strict party lines is for the weak of mind.

I vote for candidates (or against candidates) more than parties. As I recall, that's the way the system is supposed to work.

...and then the Republicans are leaning towards Fascism and Nazism on that sliding scale by your logic.

Nope, those are socialist philosophies. They're left wing, also. They just have a different opinion about who represents society. Marxist socialists like to pretend that all their opponents are fascists, so they put fascists at one end of the political spectrum and themselves at the other. The right wing, the true right wing, is individualism/laissez-faire capitalism.

Of course, there are Republicans who fall in the fascist camp. It's wrong to call them right-wingers, though.

I personally don't think people are born with a "God-given" right to health care, education, clothes, food, a big screen TV, digital cable, DSL, a BMW, and all the other things the dems would like to convince everyone ...

I believe that, too. Democrats have socialistic tendancies. Republicans are headed down that road.
Libertarian... The only true American party :).

I think he means "individualism" as in I go to work and earn money for me(individual), I start my own business for me(individual). As opposed to working and having half my paycheck go to the government to distribute to all the people.

Oh. OK. Thats a really tough thing to resolve. Any government needs to be funded. Its the abuses that need to be curbed and it seems to just get more problematic as it goes.

While I lean heavily toward no government interference, I do think people need a right to rudimental education & life saving health care. The citizens should not be forced to pay for advanced eduation, that is work-honored (or rich parents). Similarly, the most advanced medicine should not be given those who will, by their very acts, squander it (read:Mickey Mantle type antics). Keep them alive or let them die withour pain. Children of the poor should not be punished for the sins of their fathers. Keep them schooled & vaccinated for the betterment of the group.

That said, if it's not a life or death issue, make 'em work for it. Prescription drugs are not a right. Housing & cable & automobiles are for those who earn them.

Governments need to be funded, sure. But they do not need to give the majority of paycheck away to social programs such as welfare or healthcare.

OK. Let me qualify this first by saying that I agree that wefare ,etc.. is getting out of hand. That said, I still consider it somewhat of a red herring. If you look at the budget, social programs don't get near as much as the "hype" would lead you to think.

An election - is that what you call it? I was under the impression the guy with the biggest budget and the shadiest backers won. Least that seems to be the general impression here.

It wont.

Its not so much the financial backing as it is the dog and pony show aimed at inflamed emotions. He who polishes his turds to a high gloss best wins.

The average American is more concerned with who is the guest wrestler on WWF than why the NJ Supreme Court allowed an illegal substitution. That is exactly the way "they" want it. A few of us who actually pay attention are called commies or facists or conspiracy nuts. There always has to be someone to laugh at by the great unwashed. Then, the guy(or woman) withthe best one-liner on the evening news with Dan Blather, wins come the first Tuesday in Nov. Terribly sad.
