Wish me luck...I'm about to...

I figured out as much late last night...when I had 4 pins sticking up and a 4-hole speaker connector left over. The middle two without the metal connectors. (NC No Connection)

I've got to finish Dling the MoBo drivers, burn'em somehow, or put them on my portable USB drive (probably the best idea) and start plugging other shit in.

The backups done..did it to my spare drive (40GB)...and won't plug that in until it's all said and done.

Prof - I won't be here for you to help. I've got to go to my Pop's place for a birthday dinner tonight. Unless you've got the afternoon off...looks like I'm SOL. :p Thanks for the offer tho' ... much appreciated.

Sigh... I'm only a quasi-geek after all.

Thanks all!

Bish, you are aware that your XP install on that drive is 90% certain to take a dump when you try to start it in the new board, doncha?

Please tell me you double checked the ram this time.

That Ram was already in place..still on the board from when Karen used it. :D

Take a dump? You tellin' me that this shit'll fuck up on me the moment I plug it in?

You gotta be shittin' me... what the fuck am I supposed to do then...literally erase everyhting and start afresh?

You've jumped CPU brands, to start with. There's not an OS in the world that'll plug'n'play that far.

Didn't we have this exact conversation last time you upgraded?

Loverly...from AMD to P4 and poof...my shit goes buh-bye

Mr. B, you might have better luck if....
You go into safe mode, remove Every Driver, theeeen backup again, and
then switch over. :nerd:

That's why everyone asked if you had backed up first. You might get away with an install-over-the-top, but I have my doubts. You're beter to round up your source disks, back up the data, and start fresh. You'll get a better running, cleaner system.

That worked in 9x. It's not supposed to work in NT.

I'd have even better luck if I bought the shit to a store and paid them to do it...

Oh hell no!
They'd want more than the hardware is worth, for data recovery.

And people wonder why there are so many computers in landfills... fucking upgrade nightmares!

Maybe I should just buy a MAC and have done with!

It's still worth a shot. His chances are better going from AMD to Intel than the other way 'round. This is, however, why I told you not to skip the backup.

LOL, that's how I make my cig money. :D
I work cheap comparatively speaking, cutting out the completion. :nerd:

This was supposed to be a nice way to double my speed, tripple my RAM (33% faster to boot) and give m'Dad a decent machine...all in one go.

DIE, BILL GATES, DIE!!!

Much better...

not really...but it'll do for now.

Riiiight. With a Mac, you simply can't upgrade the fucker. Problem solved.

*Dons asbestos suit*

When I swapped the mb on the wifes pc I had to reinstall xp over the top. That was keeping everything but the motherboard though, same processor, memory, everything. You can't install xp on a hard drive in one computer and remove the hard drive to another, I will almost guarantee it will shit on you.

Feel free to tell me to screw off, but what are you charging these days? My usual is $35 an hour, one hour minimum.
