you know, a lot of these democrats that were elected yesterday are pretty moderate. two off-the-top-of-my-head examples: Indiana 8, Brad Ellsworth. North Carolina 11, Heath Shuler (yes, that Heath Shuler). don't expect ground-shaking changes. this was more voting against the gop than it was voting for the dems, and "they" know it.

And that, my friends, about sums it up. The liberals can clap themselves on the back all they want, but this wasn't a win for them. Dems, yes, liberals .... not really.

that's nothing.

over here we got three jokers all standing on the same square millimetre of middle ground, like three flatulent camels tottering on the eye of a needle.

after 10 years of Thatcher or 10 years of Blair ..your'e gonna wanna a change ... it's human nature ... it's like like the wimmen and wallpaper ... or carpets ... (or god forbid ..cushions) except ... you actually might care!

whoever really 'wins'?

it usually is disaffection against the other lot .. 9 out of 10 times!

If the dems get the senate though (as it looks like they will) does this make Bush as lame a duck as Blair is in his last few months????

So no one expects these freshman legislators to start lining up to kiss the rosy red asses of the party leaders to curry favor? What happened to all the accusations of "They'll say anything to get elected...wait til they vote"?

History, gentle people. History.

Pandora's box is about to be opened. Soon we'll have a cable channel showing nothing but the congressional hearings and other attempts to villainize Bush and anyone associated with him. It'll be called MSNBC.

Thats because nobody can get elected if they tell the truth, and do what's necessary...Try raising taxes and cutting spending...especially pork...and watch what happens to your support. Everybody blames the government for being wasteful, but how many have jobs because of it? ;)

BTW...what we're in for with the Dems in charge...

The conservative base would have served up a victoru for the GOP had they a conservative agenda. Outside of the war on terror (yes, that does include Iraq) and the tax cuts, they've done nothing without being shoved.

Illegal aliens will get complete amnesty. Watch out. The border is about to be a stampede.

The tax cuts will be rolled back, making me poorer.

The Fairness Doctrine will be reinstated. Killing talk radio & handing the media purely back to the liberals.

Happy days are here again. Can't you hear the tils being emptied?

Man oh man !! What gloom and doom predictions!!!!!

If Nancy Pelosi follows through, efforts will be to work together. Last time we had that as I recall was when Gingrich and Clinton worked together to reduce the indebtedness of this nation. And that was a good thing.

All this talk about higher taxes ??? We'll see.

A higher minimum wage ??? Shoulda happened a long time ago.

Non-restricted borders and immigration amnesty ??? Isn't that what President Bush had been advocating ??

The religious right got a kick in the balls with the defeat of the abortion referendum in South Dakota and this begs the question, is America less conservative ?? Leaning further away from the religious right ???

The democrats, (and republicans) know they squeeked in by way of disatisfaction over the war in Iraq and they also know if they screw with a tax increase, the democrats will be called to task next time around.

There really isn't all gloom and doom except for those pessimists by nature (and die-hard republicans) although it seems there are a lot of them.

Perhaps I give the American voter more credit than some, and figure if they later feel they want/need another change, they can make it next time around. Nancy Pelosi had said she will work with President Bush for the betterment of the country. Pelosi might be liberal, whatever that means to one or the other of us, but until she steps in her own crap and shows she was all talk, give her the benefit of the doubt to see what she can accomplish. Things not always good for Americans and the rest of the world happen when one party is in total control.

We got what we got resulting from this election, and if anything, when two groups MUST work together, as this government should do, good things happen. That is what I am counting on.

But, HEY !!!! What does a swamp creature and common road kill know about politics ????

I say, give the new makeup a chance before being so free with the pessimism.

The same people who called Bush a liar, a cheat, an idiot, saying he used Iraq for political gain now want to work together?

All this talk about higher taxes ??? We'll see.
They've already pledged to roll back the tax cuts.

A higher minimum wage ??? Shoulda happened a long time ago.
You think that gov't should tell business owners what to pay their employees?

Non-restricted borders and immigration amnesty ??? Isn't that what President Bush had been advocating ??
One of the main reasons Americans abandoned Bush.

The democrats, (and republicans) know they squeeked in by way of disatisfaction over the war in Iraq and they also know if they screw with a tax increase, the democrats will be called to task next time around.
The war was not the #1 reason for ousting the Republicans. The Dems will shoot themselves, and the rest of us, in the foot. Will Americans pay attention?

Things not always good for Americans and the rest of the world happen when one party is in total control.
So now we have to consider the feelings of the rest of the world? We need to vote for America.

I say, give the new makeup a chance before being so free with the pessimism.
Been there, done that. It failed.

What is that sound ?? HA !!!!!
The distant rumbling of pessimism has reached the Okeefenokee !!!!.

Here in the swamp, most of us have a modicum of faith. Faith of the sort that not all democrats equal bad and not all republicans equal blue skies, apple pie and prosperity. Or vice versa.

Yes, the same people who called Bush a liar and a cheat are now saying they want to work together on some issues, knowing of course, not all fit the republican agenda. Pre-election name-calling, baiting and skewering of character is called political campaigning. It pretty much goes away when the election is over.
Wednesday, November 8th, was a different day and talk of tax cuts now come with a lot of posturing, pledging and procrastination being key words until, if it takes place, before the deed is done.

IMO, and the opinion of political analysts from the news sources available here in the swamp, Americans did not abandon President Bush based on the immigration factor (cough !! Read excuse to cover ass) but voted against the handling of the war with Iraq. That is the reason for discontent and the thumping, as labeled by President Bush. If it were as simple as an issue of immigration and amnesty, politicians and President Bush had covered their butts with the 700 mile fence bill (which will most likely never be installed)while many democrats (liberal) wanted amnesty and still the democrats got elected. Did it make a difference ????? NAH !!!!!

Explanation: not considering the feelings of the rest of the world as much as making the point, what happens in the United States affects directly and indirectly, the rest of the world.

A biased, pessimistic view is not what Americans should be offering. People need to want to work together for a better future for this nation, not just the republicans. I suppose it is too much to ask people to wait, rather than heaping scorn on the newly elected representatives before they have a chance to demonstrate what they can do.

President Bush and his cabinet demonstrated three and one half years what they could NOT do when it came to Iraq so perhaps it is time for another approach yet pessimists heap praise on those failed efforts of a republican administration. But that's okay??

America felt it was time to make a change. Not to pick up our gear and walk away from Iraq, but come to some sort of equitable settlement.

Hopefully, Robert Gates will get things on track rather than the Rumsfeld method of wandering like a drunken minstrels singing the same ole song, "stay the course".

That got us nowhere.

Been there done that, it failed ???? Why do I get the feeling no matter how it turns out, in the minds of pessimists, if it handled by a democrat, it will always be a failure ????
