When foundations are designed they are designed to sit below the frost line to prevent against frost heave. :)
 
Actually, you're wrong.:p

Look up floating footings. I personally know of three houses who's foundations do not extend below the frost line. And haven't since they were built.

Ok, EXCEPT for floating foundations...we have covered those too but that's a special case.
 
In english, the equivalent would be back pedaling. the french it's "patiner". Used to describe someone who's trying to talking around the foot they've just jammed between their uppers and lowers.
