High Fructose Corn Syrup and Pancreatic Cancer link

1. I try to avoid your re-written over-thought history that serves to distort a more simple factual history.

2. Socialism/communism never ends well for the people.

1. yeah, stick to the comic book version like they taught you in grade school. like, you know, the civil war was about slavery and the north was the good guys and the south was the bad guys. go good guys!!!!

2. um, right. well thanks for that. makes a lot of sense to bring that up the context you did. oh, right, it's context-independent. just pull the string and out comes the slogan. well, again, it's good that you know who the good guys and the bad guys are.

i think i see some commies over there. you better go get 'em, boy! sic 'em!!!

I honestly had no idea the nazi party was far right. I thought it was left-wing. Hunh. Learn something new every day.

I drink a cubic gallon of diet coke every day, but I'm sure I ingest corn syrup by other means. :/

yeah, well, there are certain resemblances at the far right and the far left e.g. they both get rather authoritarian. nazis are generally considered far right because they bear more basic ideological resemblance to the right wing, mostly in how they structure their politics of identity. at the extreme left, the identity is with the party in the sense of certain ideological values/goals that define who is on the right team and who isn't which often transcend national/ethnic boundaries (at least in theory). so moderate left-wingers often carry on about diversity and inclusiveness. at the extreme right, identity is more about a certain national/ethnic identity - so we see germans looking toward racial purity, and then we see their more mainstream right wing cousins here at OTC bitching about immigrants, muslims, gays, whomever isn't just like them, incessantly. left wing is often "internationalist" in orientation; "internationalist" is the greatest fear of the far right e.g. right wing grumblings about internationalist, jewish conspiracies. think about "workers of the world unite" vs. all the shit about the motherland the nazis babbled e.g. das mutterreich.

as far as you swallowing high fructose corn syrup, i don't think you have quite so much to worry about. mostly HFCS is a US thing because of the agricultural subsidies that go to the factory corn farms. there may be corn syrup in stuff in NZ, but probably not so much high fructose corn syrup, with the former being interpreted by the body as just sugar, and the latter being the "i'm not sure what to do with this" thing that the sends some weird signals around in the body. in other countries (including NZ) i've noticed substantially less if any HFCS in foods. this is why i like mexican coke and canadian ketchup.

From the comic strips.

Hey minx, is this flag racist?

now I'm not disagreeing with you in whole but it sure seems that there are overtones and ramification of lasting racism associated with civil war 1.

why is that?

Crikey! I hope you're joking! That's a hellofa lot of soda in one day. I'm sure there's no HFCS in the diet coke. It's used as a sweetener but would definitely not qualify as "diet."
I'd imagine, that shit is in a ton of stuff. Try looking at the ingredients on stuff you eat for awhile. It's annoying to find it in stuff you think is wholesome. Like 9-grain bread or yogurt. I've found other brands for a lot of stuff that don't have it now.
Food, Inc had a good section on corn. I wish I could remember all the different names the refined corn products go by.

I was talking with one of my goddaughters last night...she's in the States and said "I don't like Maple syrup - tastes like bark" :evileek:

I MUST mail them some Real syrup so they know the difference between 'flavoured corn syrup' and Maple syrup :D

She must be mistaken. We have the real thing. There once was an unopened bottle of the fake stuff in the cupboard, but I believe its since been trashed. Only the youngest likes Maple syrup (and not the fake one), the oldest likes the fake strawberry stuff like I do. ;)

I also have to send you guys some maple sugar and maple butter... fix Ms.Banana's taste buds. And some toques too. :D

Unfortunately, that does nothing to address the fact that NAZIism was based on teh Soviet model (state controoled authoritarianism handing out goodie bags to the populace while taking control of commerce & industry)
