I never played D&D and honestly didn't know it still existed. But it sounds like the same kind of game I always play, currently Diablo II. You can play online against other people? Is it a pay service or free when you buy the game like Battle.net/Diablo?

Nope.... still a pencil and paper game...with often lots of dice. Old school MPG.
