This would be neat to live thru-once.

The National Weather Service said Parish — about 25 miles northeast of Syracuse — reached a milestone early Saturday with 100 inches of snow during the past seven days. Late Saturday, the total had risen to 110 inches. Unofficial reports pegged totals at 123 inches in Orwell and 131 in Redfield, but those measurements include snow from another storm a couple of days before the current weather system. All three towns are in Oswego County.

A warning in effect until Monday morning said 2 to 4 more feet of snow was possible with wind gusting up to 24 mph

I remember when I was five or six we had to have a trench higher than my dad's head from the house to the barn (maybe 60 or 70 yards). An army helicopter came by and made sure we had food and such. I think the major US highway (US 90, not the same as Interstate 90) we lived on was closed for eight or nine days. The Watertown deal I mentioned before was intense, but it only lasted a couple of days (well, I left after a couple of days anyway) and the roads were never actually closed. I don't think either one of those matches this one though.

We didn't really live in the snow belt. Those folks get it every year.

Those are NY State "areas of elevation" (there isn't a mountain west of Colorado)

We may get a little taste, soon
Total snow accumulations through early
Wednesday morning of 10 inches or more are expected. In
addition... brisk northeast winds of 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to
40 mph will cause considerable blowing and drifting snow...
especially Tuesday into Tuesday night... with whiteout conditions
possible at times across Interstate 69... Route 30 and many outlying
areas.

those all in the area where the 100+" of snow fell?

No, not all of them. They're all having a pretty good year for snow though.

Tell you what, I'll take you to a little spot I know in the Adirondacks and push you off with a cell phone. You call me and let me know if it's high enough (before you hit though, please). ;)

High cliffs do not a mountain make.

Highest point along I80, easty of ther Mississippi is (about) 1700'. Highest point along I90 is like 1300'.

Vail pass is over 9000'.

And the elevation of the surrounding countryside????????

If you go by your definition the only real mountains are in Nepal and Tibet.

You do understand that they try not to run interstate highways over the actual highest points when it's not necessary, right?

Vail Pass is the interstate route.

Flagstaff sits at nearly a mile, as does Albuquerque. Both interstate routes. Ever gone from Sacramento to Reno?

As someone who regularly passes from cornfields to plateaus, I agree it's relative. However,

The first REAL snowfall in a year.

Total snow accumulations through early Wednesday morning will range from
12 to 16 inches. In addition... brisk northeast winds of 20 to 25
with gusts around 35 mph mph will cause considerable blowing and
drifting snow... especially Tuesday and Tuesday night... with
whiteouts conditions and some impassable roads possible.

maybe

A Blizzard Warning remains in effect until 7 am EST /6 am CST/
Wednesday.

A combination of heavy snow and strong northeast winds will
result in blizzard conditions over much of northern Indiana and
Northwest Ohio today and tonight. In addition... it will be very
cold with wind chills falling below zero this afternoon and
continuing tonight. Storm total snowfall accumulations are
expected to range from 10 to 18 inches with heaviest amounts over
southern portions of the area.
