Strange..........plenty of our soldier boys seem to be gettin' murdered on a regular basis :shrug: But at least we can now relax knowing that the threat to the same soldiers on their homeland is now contained :roilleyes:

You are looking at the short term. In 25 years you'll realize how significant & important this is to our future. We are not an imperialist nor empirical nation. Never have been, never will be.
 
that is because we dont have an empire? our bases in other countries is that for our benefit or theirs or is it mutual?
 
Those bases were placed there to protect them. We were overseas & safe (no longer). Today, it's mutual. If we pulled all our troops out of peaceful nations, half the worlds economy would sway on it's foundation (possibly collapsing)
 
then we need to keep them there. I had always wondered why we had bases in other countries. now I know somewhat that it did help them and i see it stil help them but how is it for our protection(unless you mean the worlds economy)
 
It protected us by giving us a working forward base, especially against the Soviet Union and China.

Germany & Japan are no longer allowed to establish an offensive military (by Constitutional decree). We are bound to protect Japan & I'm no longer sure if we have to assist Germany or not.
 
I dont think we will be. I think that we are viewing them the same as France. tho now i see totally why they are there. thanks.
