point was that you clearly believe that entertainers are only allowed to be political if you approve of their political views. Interesting view, but not what America is supposed to be about. Gonz is a bit more liberal. They're allowed to have opinions, they're just not supposed to say them out loud.
You both miss the larger point. Yes, the Dixie Chicks (well Natalie, anyway) were stupid in a) not realizing who their fan base were and b) not recognizing the shit storm that the comments would bring. Still, the conservative press was completely out of line for castigating them and a lot of self-professed "patriots" have a severely limited understanding of what "freedom of speech" implies. I've said it a few times before, but it bears repeating. Freedom of speech is meaningless unless someone else has the freedom to say that which makes your blood boil. You, of course, are free to disagree, but condemnation of someone for having a differing opinion is just wrong and that's what the conservatives are doing in this case.
In America
private citizens have the
right to express their political views. If this presents a problem, leave.
