a solider shot a kid who went after an rpg cause the solider thought hed either use it or give it to an Iraqi solider. what would you do?

Sorry, I'd probably choose the first. It might be nice to say something else, but under the circumstances thats probably the natural reaction for most people, especially soldiers.

Round through the head. No question.

We're talking people who've be taught from birth that americans are evil and must be killed at all costs. While most people aren't dumb enough to accept that in toto, many do. And children learn best from their parents. I know. I see it every day with the seperatists up here.

If the kid was going for a gun, he'll go for another one given the chance.

There were children in Vietnam who were told to take a hand grenade, walk into the soldiers tents and pull the pin. The kids didn't know what they were doing, and often were told that the soldiers would give them candy if they did it. So yep, sad as it is, if a kid has a weapon that might be a threat to me, I'd shoot.

Don't you mean the people who want independence from that "Eenglish" speaking country?:D

On a serious note, as I've said before, if it's them or me, it's going to be me every time.

It's not just a matter of the kid being trained to hate. I saw something the other day about how some of the kids are getting military training from the time they're 10. I don't know that I would be afraid for my own life if I saw a kid picking up a rocket launcher unless I had reason to think he might know how to use the damn thing.

Unless I've a reason to think he doesn't, I'd assume he does. He knows where it is, doesn't he?

I don't know... It would be awful damn hard for me to shoot a kid. I guess if I were in the situation my survival instinct would take over. It wouldn't be easy to live with, though, if I had some reason to doubt that he was going to use it. I don't think anyone knows what they would do until they're actually in the situation, which is why I haven't bothered to vote in the poll.

i agree with ards id rather try to disarm the kid rather than kill him. not saying hes not a threat but he may not understand what hes doing and maybe he wasnt trained to hate. and whos to know whether or not he can use the weapon.

I'd hope you're right about living with it being hard. The moment is becomes easy that person needs to be put down like a rabid dog. But at least you get to live.

How old was this kid? Never mind that answer...why shoot the kid? Hell...kick the kid in the butt and send him home crying.

The kid wasn't armed (or I assume they would've mentioned it) ...he wasn't actually attacking...he was trying to 'reach' an RPG.

I'm not sure how many have actually tried picking up an RPG..they aren't lightweights. He might not even be able to pick it up, much less wield it correctly.

What you do is fire a few rounds into the ground in front of the kid...if he doesn't take the hint...a few well placed punches would do it.

Shooting the kid was...overkill.

"Harm not, when holding is enough; wound not, when hurting is enough; maim not, when wounding is enough; kill not when maiming is enough; The greatest warrior is he who does not have to kill"

There's no way I'd kill the kid. I'd rather take a slightly bigger risk trying to disarm him, firing warning shots, or there's a very small chance I'd shoot for the legs if I really had to.

I couldn't live with myself killing a kid that possibly wasn't even a threat.

If there is a choice between who gets to live, ME or YOU, ME is always going to win.

Yea and in a recent poll of the same nature someone worded that almost the same way... been readin innit? ;)

You know flavio, from my response I would have thought it would be clear what I would do, but I guess it takes some spoon feeding...

Yes, if you're armed and pointing a gun at me and I have to decide whether you're going to live or I'm going to live, it will be me and you will be shot (my decision at least, whether I manage to carry that out isn't the topic). Now I would hate doing it and it wouldn't be easy to live with.

The kid wasn't armed yet, though.

Personally I doubt the kid would've been able to pick up a gun of that calibre, as was suggested earlier. But if he could, and he had it aimed at me, well, I'd hightail it out of there of course. My pissy little machine gun is no match for an RPG...

Does anyone else experience a moment of confusion when hearing the abbreviation, RPG, used in that context? :)
